- Established in 1988 to develop supportive housing for
those with
serious mental illness and addiction disorders.
- Owns 550
apartments in 80 buildings in greater Toledo, in addition to one building in
Tiffin and another in Fostoria, Ohio. There are between 2 and 28 apartment
homes at each
site.
- Offers affordable housing to
many
individuals receiving federal Section 8 vouchers or other housing assistance.
- Offers peer
support to tenants as they build life skills and learn to live
independently. This reduces the risk of psychiatric hospitalization and homelessness,
saving the community tens of thousands of dollars annually.
- Accepts
referrals from local mental health agencies, homeless shelters and
substance use programs.
- Oversees the
group home placement of 100-plus people in adult care facilities in Lucas
County.
- Has 13 volunteer board members responsible for
governing the organization.
- Employs over 50 people in
tenant support, real estate services and management positions.
- Partners with the Lucas County Mental Health
and Recovery Services Board of Lucas County, Lucas
Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA), the City of Toledo, local behavioral
health centers, Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH), Ohio Department of Development (ODOD),
Ohio Department of Youth Services, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and others.
- Has a
central office at
2753 W. Central Avenue, in the same building as NAMI (National Alliance on Mental
Illness) of Greater Toledo and DBSA (Depression & Bipolar
Support Alliance).
